HomeThe Friends Of Florendine

The school is very fortunate in having a very active "Friends" group.  A variety of events are organised each year - most are for the children, but a select few are for the adults and all go towards enhancing the school and developing our community.  Each year the Friends group  raise a considerable sum of money which is used to enhance the learning environment for all the children. Past purchases include computer equipment, stage system, stage lighting, sound system, new pond, commercial laminating unit, etc etc. the list goes on.

All parents are welcome to join in and support at whatever level you would like - from simply attending a function (and spending some money) right up to work on the committee.

The current Chair of the group is Mrs Rowley and is well supported by the other members of the committee. If there are any matters you would like to discuss then she should be your first point of reference. The Friends group cannot survive without your support - please endeavour to work with this group at whatever level you are able to. The money raised does make a difference to the experience that your child will have at the school.

This area of the website will be expanding as more information is uploaded so remember to check back frequently for the most up to date information.

 Newsletter January 2010

Welcome back.  Hope you have all had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year so far.

Key Stage 2 Fun Night – Wednesday 20th January – 6.15-7.30pm

Hopefully the weather will be kind enough to us to let this event go ahead.  This is just for the older children in Mrs Williams, Mr Roberts, Mrs Morris, Mrs Maunand, Mr Hudson and Mr Crookes’ classes.  Please note that this is NOT a disco and the format of the evening is slightly different.  There will be a tuck shop, a raffle and games.  We will be selling the entrance tickets beforehand as we did for the disco to allow the children to enter more quickly.  If the children could bring their money in on Friday 15th January we will issue tickets to them.  Please mark the envelope with their name, class and of course KS2 Fun Night.

Entrance £1.00  - Please ensure your children are picked up promptly at 7.30pm.  No child will be allowed to leave unaccompanied. In the event of the evening being cancelled due to the weather we will refund the entrance fee.

School Disco – Wednesday 10th February – 6.30-8.00pm

Entrance £1.50 - Includes free drink

                                               Professional DJ

                                               Tuck Shop (Sweets, drinks – 5p, 10p & 20p)

                                               Games Room (10p & 20p)

Years 1 to 6 only – Reception children are invited to the discos after Easter.

We will again be pre selling the tickets for the disco so if the children could send their money in an envelope by 5th February we will issue them with their tickets.  Please mark the envelope with their name, class and of course DISCO.

Please ensure your children are picked up at 8.00pm promptly. No children will be allowed to leave unaccompanied.

Any parents that are willing to help at the above events will be most welcome.  Please speak to a member of the ‘friends’ group or leave your name and contact number at the office.

Foneclub

The children will shortly be bringing home an envelope for recycling mobile phones.  If anyone has had a new phone for Christmas please donate your old one in the envelope provided and send it into school.  We receive £2.50 per phone received.  If you have more than one and they don’t fit into the envelope just send them in loose and we will sort them.  It doesn’t matter how old they are we collect them all.   Please take out any sim cards before sending them in.

Bags to School

Do you have a pile of unwanted clothes lying around the house waiting for a charity bag to come through the door?   This year we will be hosting a Bags to School day.   This is a company who comes in and collects the bags and in return gives the school money per kilogram of clothes they receive.   The company is not a charity run business but instead sells the clothes on to developing countries at prices that they can afford.  Hopefully we can raise some money for our school by helping these people as well.  We have provisionally booked Friday 26th February for the collection but will confirm details nearer the time.  The children will each be sent home with a bag to be filled.  Please look out for the posters going up around school.  Furth details will be sent out when we have them.
